The Soldiers' National Cemetery was both our first and last stop during our visit to Gettysburg. The monument is the site of where Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address. Of the noted over 51,000 casualties of the three days, July 1, 2, 3 of 1863 of Battle at Gettysburg; many were unknown as buried on the battlefield.
Helpful to view the Diorama with explanation of the extensive farmlands of battle for all three days, before going out and viewing. We also took a double decker bus tour through the Battlefield with a very knowledgeable guide from the State of Maine; also one of the few but increasing # of woman guides certified as a Gettysburg National Park Guide. At the PA memorial/monument, we found two of our Zulick relatives noted to have fought at Gettysburg - Lt.Col. Samuel Morton Zulick who served in the 29th Infantry (who fought important battle at Culp's Hill) and James M Zulick a private in Co.G part of the 96th Infantry. At Culp's Hill, we climbed the observation tower to see the panoramic view of the entire battlegrounds.

We had a wonderful BBQ dinner with Les's brother and family the first night we arrived at Jonestown/Hershey, PA
A nice visit to Amish Country, Lancaster, PA with Randy and Michelle on Sunday morning after a breakfast with a taste of scrapple which I remember from when I was growing up in PA.
On Sunday afternoon we went to the Pennsylvania Railroad museum and after touring the museum took a wonderful ride in the lounge car touring the countryside farms where corn and tobacco are grown.

Wednesday we enjoyed visiting the helicopter museum in Chester, PA. The aircraft were of particular interest to Les as he worked on some of their features during his career.
We then had a wonderful visit with cousins for lunch and then dinner on Wednesday.
Thursday was ours first day without any rain and we took full advantage by lounging by the pool.
Friday we had a special dinner with my good friend from high school and today we are off to Les's brother and family in Myerstown, PA.

Washington's headquarters at Brandywine. The battle was on September 11, 1777 and involved roughly 11,000 continental soldiers. Although lost, it resulted in a withdrawal and didn't dampen the resolve of the continental soldiers to defeat the British later on.
The Gilpin House a short distance away was the home of Gideon Gilpin and family, local Quakers and on of the oldest homes in the area.

From the beautiful gardens of 1,083 acres to the majestic fountains and 4-acre Conservatory; Longwood Gardens has always been a favorite of mine. The founder Pierre S. duPont, inspired by gardens such as Versailles, elevated the art of horticulture to create one of the great gardens of the world. Recently added is the history room of the pipe organ. One can be heard in the ballroom in the Conservatory.

On Monday night, we had an amazing dinner, thanks to daughter Dawn, chef Joey with family and friends. We dined on clams, shrimp, crab claws and beef filet. All cooked to perfection! Can't top that. Of course, in Buffalo, you must taste the amazing wings. We went to the River Works and kayaked with Dawn, Sara, Joel, Kay and Kyle. Much fun to do and see industrial area renewed with sports, bars, eateries, tours and events.
